Classroom Printing

This guide is to cover how to get students to print work in the classroom. There are two pieces of additional information you will need before you start:

  1. The department release account details (username and password)
  2. The identity of the printer you wish to release to (for fixed printers, that is the room number/name. For the mobile printers look for the white label on the printer).

For the Students

When printing, students will need to select the appropriate printer from the list – based on the subject work they are printing. This will match the username from the department release account your department will be provided.

The Release Console

Once students have sent the job to the printer, staff will need to open the new Web Release page – there is a link to this on the Intranet, or you can open it directly in a web browser by going to:

http://release.woodlands.internal

Log in using your departmental release account.

Once you have logged in, you will see a list of all the documents that have been sent for printing to that department:

Key information to check before releasing work:

  • Document name - the student username will be appended to the start of the document name.

  • Time Submitted - documents from prior periods that have not been released or deleted may still be in this list, so check that the job time matches the current lesson.

  • Pages & Copies - these two columns will let you know how the number of copies set by the student, and how many pages in each copy.

  • Color – this column indicates if the document has been sent in Black & White or Colour, the printing defaults should be set to Black & White double-sided printing, if you need Colour or other options, the student will need to set that up before sending to print.

Releasing Print Jobs

Once you are happy that the documents are from the correct students, do not have excessive pages, and you are ready to print them:

  1. Select the checkboxes by all the jobs you want to release. The top checkbox on the header row will select all - be aware that there may be old jobs or jobs from other current classes in the list if you use this, so always read all the jobs you are releasing.
  2. Click the “Release” button  from the top bar – this will then open a new page asking for a destination.
  3. Pick the appropriate printer from the list – this will be either the room you are in (for fixed location printers), or the name matching the label on the printer.

  4. The print job should now come out the printer.
  5. Once you are finished, log out using the “Exit” button  from the top bar.

If students have sent additional prints since you opened the page, you can click the “Refresh” button  from the top bar to refresh the page which will update the list.

If there are jobs that were sent in error, then they can be removed from the list by selecting the checkboxes for the jobs to delete, then clicking the “Delete” button  from the top bar.

Note that if you forget what a button does, hovering the mouse over it should show a tooltip indicating what the button is for.
